Black smoke over Russia: major fire shakes port city

According to various reports, a fire has occurred in Novorossiysk. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

On the short message service X (former Twitter), videos are circulating of a large cloud of black smoke said to have been recorded over the Russian port city of Novorossiysk. According to Russian state media, a large fire is believed to have broken out at the Novorossiysk oil terminal. However, as of today, it is still unclear whether drone strikes were involved. In some videos circulating on the Internet, smaller explosions triggered by the fire can be heard in the background. According to initial estimates, the fire covers more than 1,000 square meters. However, this information has not yet been confirmed by the related authorities.

Novorossiysk is a Russian port city in the Krasnodar region. It is located on the Black Sea and has about 250,000 inhabitants. It is one of the most important Russian oil export centers in the region.

Just a few hours ago, Russia reported a drone attack on Moscow. Falling debris had damaged a building. It is not yet known whether the fire in Novorossiysk is directly related to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
