“Gigantic Fire” – Explosion in Russian City

An explosion occurred at the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant in a transformer station, as reported by the Moscow Times.

An intense fire broke out, according to the local Ministry of Emergency Situations. Eyewitness footage shows a huge cloud of fire rising into the sky.

According to the Telegram channel “112,” a short circuit was the cause of the fire. Six fire engines and two ambulances were dispatched to the scene. There is no information on injuries so far. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reports that the open fire has been successfully extinguished. Local residents report disruptions in water supply and electricity in social media.

The Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant is the main supplier for the companies of the “Uralvagonzavod” group: engines from ЧТЗ of various power levels are used in tanks such as the T-72, T-90 “Proryv”, BMPТ “Terminator”, as well as in self-propelled artillery units like “Akacia”, “Msta-S”, and “Coalition-SW”.

In 2023, the plant came under American and Ukrainian sanctions due to its specialization in manufacturing diesel engines for military equipment for the Russian Armed Forces.
