Governor: Ukraine attack on Russian territory ends in failure

Russia has again reported drone attacks on Russian territory. Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of Russia’s Belgorod region, said Aug. 20 that 12 drones had been shot down on approach to the regional capital. This reports The Kyiv Independent.

However, Gladkov did not provide further details on casualties or damage. At the same time, the number of drones mentioned contradicts claims by the Russian Defense Ministry that air defenses repelled an alleged attack in two waves on August 20. Unlike Gladkov in Belgorod, the Russian Defense Ministry speaks of three Ukrainian missiles that were shot down. Belgorod is less than 35 kilometers from the Ukrainian-Russian border.

According to the responsible governor, there was also an attack in the Kursk region. Roman Starovoit states that Ukraine attacked a railroad station in Kursk on the night of August 20. He speaks of five injured people and a fire on the roof of the station.

This information comes from a party to the conflict and has not yet been independently verified and/or confirmed. For this reason, this report is to be evaluated with reservation.
