Harsh sanctions against Russia: G7 foreign ministers reaffirm support for Ukraine

The G7 foreign ministers have assured Ukraine of their extensive and ongoing support, as reported by Tagesschau.

Despite the conflict in the Middle East, the G7 nations reaffirmed their determination at their meeting in Tokyo to continue supporting Ukraine and to “impose sharp sanctions against Russia,” according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry. Yoko Kamikawa, the Japanese Foreign Minister, emphasized the importance of the G7 countries sending “a united and clear signal to the international community that our unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine will never wane” in light of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Zelensky promises the EU extensive reforms

Furthermore, the foreign ministers committed to “accelerating the reconstruction of Ukraine in the medium and long term” and to working with international partners “towards a peace process.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has promised the EU further reforms to speed up accession negotiations. Ukraine is working on new laws and strengthening its state institutions to implement EU standards in the country, Zelensky said in his evening video message. “Ukraine will be in the EU.”
