In the face of armament by NATO countries: Russia reinforces troops on western border

On its western borders, Russia is currently reinforcing its troops, as the German news platform n-tv.de reports.

According to official statements, Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu justifies this step by saying that NATO member Poland has already announced an increase in its military presence. He further states that he also expects a significant deployment of troops and weapons of the transatlantic alliance in the new NATO member country Finland.

At the same time, according to the official news agency PAP, the Polish government announces that it will now station 2,000 additional soldiers on the border with Belarus, instead of the 1,000 originally planned. This decision comes amid concerns about possible military action by Belarus after the country apparently decided to conduct exercises in the Suwalki Gap – causing great concern among neighboring Poland and Lithuania. This action is also aimed at stopping illegal immigration from the country, which is allied with Russia.
