ISW: Ukraine celebrates “significant” breakthrough against Russia

Ukraine has “probably” succeeded in making a “significant” tactical breakthrough near the village of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhya region. This reports the German news website merkur.de with reference to the U.S. think tank Institute for the Study of War.

According to ISW estimates, Ukrainian soldiers are concentrated there on a section of the front line about 2.6 kilometers long. However, Ukraine has not yet completely broken through the Russian defensive line of vehicles and other heavy equipment, the September 16 ISW report said.

The Russian defense lines around Robotyne are heavily mined. For this reason, the Ukrainian counteroffensive there is making only slow progress. Just a week ago, Ukraine said it had recaptured another 1.5 square kilometers around the recently liberated village of Robotyne.

This information comes from a party to the conflict and has not yet been independently verified / confirmed. For this reason, the report must be evaluated with reservations. In war, it can be advantageous for parties to make false statements about the course of the conflict in order to strengthen their own position or weaken the position of the opponent.
