Massive Blast in Russia: Ukraine Targets Supersonic Bomber Fleet

Drone attack in Novgorod hits Soltsy military airport. One aircraft damaged, Moscow speaks of an act of terrorism.

In Novgorod oblast, which is located about 250 kilometers south of St. Petersburg, there was a significant incident. As reported by the Daily Express, the Soltsy military airport was attacked by a drone. As a result, thick black smoke rose over the area.

The Russian government accuses Ukraine of “terrorist attack”. The drone that carried out the attack is described by the Daily Express as helicopter-like. The attack caused a fire in the base’s aircraft parking lot, but it was quickly brought under control. According to the report, one aircraft was damaged. Despite the damage caused, there were no casualties. Interesting is the information of the “Daily Express” that at least twelve Tu-22M3 bombers are stationed at the affected base. These are regularly used in the current Ukraine conflict to fire X-22 missiles.

Attacks on Russian soil “fair

The Ukrainian government has not yet commented on the incident. However, in a more general context, President Volodymyr Selenskyy stressed that such attacks on Russian soil in the course of the war should be considered “inevitable and fair.”
