The Austrian military expert Colonel Markus Reisner expresses concerns about the possibility that the Russian army could achieve a breakthrough in the coming weeks or months and again occupy more land.
In the podcast of the German news website ntv.de, he explains: “This danger exists, especially if Ukraine does not have sufficient means to defend itself appropriately or to go on the offensive.” He adds: “The dilemma is: military measures and offensives require a high demand for resources.” Reisner emphasizes that Ukraine has made impressive progress in earlier offensives in cities like Kharkiv or Kherson. However, military resources were exhausted in the process, which now need to be replenished.
According to Reisner’s analysis, Ukraine faces the challenge of surviving the winter, particularly protecting the hinterland, and preparing for spring when it comes to recapturing occupied territories. He concludes with the appeal: “Ukraine needs resources for this, which must be provided now.”
