More delivery speed: Ukraine demands heavy weapons from Germany

Oleksii Makeiev, Ukraine’s ambassador to Berlin, hopes Germany will provide long-range weapons for his country’s defense campaign against Russia, while calling for accelerated delivery.

Oleksii Makeiev told the newspapers “Rheinische Post” and “General-Anzeiger” that although Germany does not have F-16 fighter jets, his country would like to receive long-range missiles from Germany. In particular, Ukraine would like to receive the cruise missile “Taurus”, ammunition and heavy equipment for demining terrain where Russian forces have barricaded themselves. This is reported by the German news website tagesschau.de.

Makeiev expressed hope that the delivery of the “Taurus” missiles would not take as long as the recent tank debate in Germany.

The Ukrainian ambassador in Germany currently sees no possibility for a negotiated peace with Russia. He believes that this peace must be fought for and Russia must be defeated, as he told the “Rheinische Post”. A quick end to the war by Russia is possible, he said, if it withdraws all its troops from the occupied territories, including Crimea.
