Recent tensions in the Black Sea between Russia and the collective West have increased. Bulgaria is making efforts to prevent tensions in the Black Sea, Defense Minister Todor Tagarev said, but a clash between NATO and Russia cannot be ruled out. This reports The Kyiv Independent with reference to an interview Tagarev gave to the NOVA television channel.
Asked whether there is a risk of a confrontation between the Alliance and Russian forces in the Black Sea, Tagarev replied, “We cannot rule out such a possibility. We are working to prevent it. Russia is constantly provoking NATO.”
The trigger for increased tensions in the region was Russia’s withdrawal from the grain deal in which Turkey had mediated between Ukraine and Russia. Russian attacks on Ukraine’s port infrastructure and threats against civilian shipping followed.
