Outrage Over Putin: ‘Deliberate Destruction’ in Avdiivka

Relatives of soldiers from a Russian unit near Avdiivka have emphasized in a letter to President Vladimir Putin “signs of deliberate destruction” of conscripts, as reported by the independent Russian investigative portal iStories based in Latvia.

According to the letter, the soldiers have been living in trenches for over ten months, about 700 meters from Avdiivka, and are under constant bombardment, as reported by the German news website n-tv.de. The families of the men also claim that it was ordered to send soldiers with moderate injuries to attack divisions. According to a directive from the end of November, individuals with light and moderate injuries should also be treated in the trenches. The wife of a soldier is quoted by iStories saying: “My husband says that they are walking over corpses there, everything is just littered with them.”

These statements have not yet been independently verified and/or confirmed. Therefore, they should be considered with caution. In war, it can be advantageous for conflicting parties to deliberately spread misinformation to strengthen their own position or weaken that of the opponent.
