Poland: Fear of destabilization of NATO’s Eastern Flank

According to Polands Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group were allegedly sent to Belarus to destabilize NATO’s eastern flank.

Morawiecki explains that this is the goal of the mercenaries, as reported by the German news platform n-tv.de. To the east, his country borders Belarus, while further north Latvia and Lithuania serve as the Russian ally’s immediate neighbors. The Russian mercenaries conduct training sessions in Belarus near the Poland border to train Belarusian soldiers. The exact number of mercenaries involved is not known. Faced with this situation, Poland has reacted by moving over 1,000 soldiers to its border with Belarus.
