Russian defense minister contradicts Putin and announces new nuclear submarines

Sergei Shoigu, the defense minister of Russia, visited the Russian Pacific Fleet to learn about the repair and modernization of nuclear submarines at the Zvezda plant in the city of Bolshoi Kamen.

Shoigu disclosed that the Russian Navy has already added two new ships to its inventory this year and will receive another 12 ships by the end of 2023, as reported by the Russian state news agency RIA. In July, Putin had indicated that the Russian Navy would receive a total of 30 new ships by 2023, according to the German news website n-tv.de. Shoigu did not explain the reason for the decrease in expected deliveries. However, he further informed that Russia is working on the development of new nuclear-capable submarines and underwater drones as the German news website tagesschau.de reports.

This information comes from a party to the conflict and has not yet been independently verified / confirmed. For this reason, the report is to be evaluated with reservations.
