Russian ‘Shahed’ Attack Causes Blackout

The AP news agency reports that Russia has fired nearly a dozen “Shahed” drones towards Ukrainian targets, as the German news platform n-tv.de reported.

When one of these drones was intercepted, debris fell and damaged power lines near a nuclear power plant in the west of the country, leaving hundreds of people without electricity. The Ukrainian Air Force claims to have successfully stopped all the drones that were shot down.

In a video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia’s recent drone attack in the western Ukrainian region of Khmelnytskyi was most likely targeting the local nuclear power plant. Zelensky emphasized that this incident is an alarming evidence of the need for intensified sanctions against Russia. He stated, “There is a high likelihood that the target of these drones was the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant complex. The explosion led to a shockwave, shattering window panes, even within the premises of the nuclear plant.”
