Showdown: ‘…great risk that Ukraine will lose the war’

It’s a race against time: The funds so far released by the U.S. Congress for aid to Ukraine will be exhausted by the end of the year.

If the parliament does not approve a comprehensive package, including $61 billion for Ukraine, the government will no longer be able to procure equipment. This is reported by the German news platform zdf.de, referring to the Democratic leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer. He speaks of a “historic turning point.”

At the same time, support in the U.S. population is waning. 45 percent believe that the government is paying too much. Among Republicans, this figure is even higher at 59 percent.

Jason Jay Smart, a correspondent for the Kyiv Post, quotes an employee of the Ukrainian Presidential Office. This person warns: “Without U.S. aid, there is a great risk that Ukraine will lose the war.” ZDF itself headlines its article as a U.S. showdown over Ukraine aid.
