“Situation Rapidly Worsening”: Russia Launches Massive Attacks

Intense fighting is being reported from the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine. Russia is said to have launched new attacks, especially around the city of Avdiivka, which has been contested for months. This is reported by German news website n-tv.de, citing Vitali Barabash, head of the military administration in Avdiivka.

Andriy Yermak, head of the presidential office in Kyiv, also shares this assessment. He speaks of “massive attacks by Russian artillery.” Ukraine had already warned of the deteriorating situation around Avdiivka yesterday. “The enemy is trying to encircle the city,” Barabash said. “The risk of the city being occupied has existed for a year. But today (October 10, 2023, editor’s note) the situation is rapidly worsening.”

Before the war, around 30,000 residents lived in Avdiivka. This number has now shrunk to about 1,600. Avdiivka is located 13 kilometers from Donetsk.

These statements have not yet been independently verified and/or confirmed. Therefore, they should be considered with caution. In war, it can be advantageous for conflicting parties to deliberately spread false information to strengthen their own position or weaken the opponent’s.
