UK Ministry of Defense: Chechen leader highlights loyalty to Putin

Every day since the escalation of Russia’s war of aggression on Ukraine at the end of February 2022, the UK Ministry of Defense publishes its assessment of the situation in the conflict. Today, August 15, it is about Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

On the Social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the UK Ministry of Defense writes: “In an online posting on August 10, 2023, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov paid tribute to the deployment of the Chechen Vostok Akhmat battalion in the heavily contested Orhikiv sector of the Zaporizhzhya region.” It continues, “Kadyrov’s remarks underscored the continued role of one of the most important Chechen units in this key area. Vostok is officially under the command of the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division of the Southern Military District, which is active in the area around the village of Robotyne.”

The UK Ministry of Defense explains, “Chechen forces represent a relatively small but high-profile component of Russian forces in Ukraine. Kadyrov likely promotes the role of his units heavily, in part to underscore his credibility as a Putin loyalist.”

In Russia, the daily updates from the UK Ministry of Defense are considered propaganda.
