UK Ministry of Defense: Prigozhin “very likely” dead

Every day since the escalation of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the UK Ministry of Defense publishes its assessment of the situation in the conflict. On August 25, 2023, it is about the alleged death of mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Via X writes the British Ministry of Defense: “On August 23, 2023, exactly two months after the Wagner Group mutiny, a Wagner Group Embraer business jet crashed near Tver, between Moscow and St. Petersburg. According to Russian authorities, 10 people on board died, including Wagner owner Yevgeny Prigozhin. There is no definitive evidence yet that Prigozhin was on board, and he is known to take extraordinary security measures. However, it is very likely that he is indeed dead.”

The British Ministry of Defense predicts: “Prigozhin’s demise would certainly have a highly destabilizing effect on the Wagner Group. His personal characteristics of hyperactivity, extraordinary boldness, results orientation, and extreme brutality have defined Wagner and are unlikely to be matched by any successor. Wagner’s leadership vacuum would be compounded by reports of the deaths of founder and field commander Dimitry Utkin and logistics chief Valery Chekalov.”
