Ukraine Now Fights with the “Best Tank in the World”

Ukraine recently received ten “Stridsvagn 122” tanks from Sweden. The Swedish Army proudly announces that this is the “best tank in the world,” as reported by German news website merkur.de.

“Stridsvagn” translates to chariot but is the term used for a tank in Sweden. The Stridsvagn 122, also known as Strv 122, is based on the German Leopard 2A5 tank. However, these models have been manufactured in Sweden with several improvements, including the chassis, armor, and fire control system. Also incorporated is GALAX, a French smoke grenade launcher. The tank’s effective use in urban and wooded environments is particularly emphasized, which could prove essential for Ukraine with the approaching winter.

Sweden owns 120 of these tanks. By delivering ten tanks to Ukraine, they are parting with approximately eight percent of their own stock. Mats Ludvig, the head of Swedish operational command, states: “We have given them everything we have in terms of quality material and knowledge. Now we wish them all the best in liberating their country.”
