Ukraine part of the EU by 2030: “No more time to waste”

Under certain conditions, EU Council President Charles Michel supports a potential accession of Ukraine to the European Union by 2030. This was reported by ZDF.

“Ukraine can be in the EU by 2030 if both sides do their homework,” Michel said in an interview with Der Spiegel. A swift accession of Ukraine would demonstrate the EU’s geopolitical effectiveness. At the same time, the Belgian emphasized that there would be no political “perks” granted to Ukraine or other current EU accession candidates. “Ukraine and other accession candidates must carry out reforms, fight corruption, and meet the necessary legal requirements,” Michel stated. Nevertheless, the EU must not “waste any more time” now, as the influence of Russia and China is increasing on the Western Balkans.
