Ukraine takes drastic measures: Drone deployment against its own citizens

The Ukrainian Border Guard reports that it is using drones to prevent conscripts from fleeing abroad. In the southern Odessa region on the border with the Republic of Moldova, 14 men were prevented from leaving the country illegally on Friday, according to the Border Guard.

In four cases, a drone was also used for aerial reconnaissance, as reported by the German news website Merkur. The Border Guard has released a video about it. These men tried to cross the border unlawfully.

It’s not uncommon for men in Ukraine to attempt to avoid deployment in the fight against the Russian war of aggression. According to the Border Guard, the suspects had made online contact with organizers who, for a fee of 2000 US dollars (about 1893 Euros), had shown them escape routes. Since the start of the Russian invasion over 20 months ago, the Ukrainian Border Guard claims to have prevented more than 20,000 conscripted men from fleeing.
