According to Ukrainian military sources, an attack by Russian forces in the east was successfully repelled, as the German news website n-tv.de reports.
“Heavy fighting is taking place,” General Staff spokesman Andriy Kovalev expressed in an official statement. In the course of the previous day, he said, there had been more than 30 combat operations. He particularly emphasized Russian advances near the village of Synkiwka, located just under ten kilometers from the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region, which was liberated by Ukrainian forces last year.
Also he mentioned Russian counterattacks in the adjacent Donetsk region south of the Russian-controlled town of Bakhmut, near the village of Klishchiyivka. Kovalev added that Ukrainian troops are continuing their own offensive actions in the Zaporizhzhya and Donetsk regions. However, he did not provide detailed information on any terrain gains.
