“Unique operation”: Ukrainian intelligence frees oil rigs in the Black Sea

Since 2015, the Boiko were under the control of Russia. Now, according to its military intelligence SBU, Ukraine has freed the oil platforms again. This reports the German news website t-online.

By its own account, Ukraine has thus recaptured the Boiko towers after eight years. They are located near the Crimean peninsula, which was illegally annexed by Russia. Already on Monday, the Ukrainian intelligence service announced that in a “unique operation” it had succeeded in bringing the Boiko towers back under Ukrainian control.

For Ukraine, this had been militarily important. Now Russia can no longer use the gas and oil platforms for its military purposes, he said. “Russia has been deprived of the ability to fully control the waters of the Black Sea and this brings Ukraine many steps closer to retaking Crimea.”

This information comes from a party to the conflict and has not yet been independently verified / confirmed. For this reason, the report must be evaluated with reservations. In war, it can be advantageous for parties to make false statements about the course of the conflict in order to strengthen their own position or weaken the position of the opponent.
