USA intelligence: Is North Korea supplying weapons to Russia?

The U.S. currently believes that North Korea supported Russia with weapons for the war in Ukraine.

According to the US government, North Korea supplied weapons to Russia for the war of aggression against Ukraine. This involved more than 1,000 containers with military equipment and ammunition, the White House said.

In addition, Pyongyang is apparently believed to want advanced Russian weapons technologies from Moscow in return for the ability to expand North Korea’s nuclear program. This was announced by National Security Council Communications Director John Kirby. North Korea was condemned for supplying Russia with military equipment and thus further fueling an unlawful war, the communications director said.

Arms shipments also include missiles and armored vehicles

In particular, missiles, armored vehicles and ballistic missile production equipment are the focus of the delivery, Kirby added. “We are watching closely to see if Moscow will provide Pyongyang with these materials.”

Already in the past, the U.S. and allies have repeatedly issued strong warnings against military cooperation between the two states and expressed concern about possible arms deals.

Meeting Putin and Kim Jong Un

Back in September, the Russian president and North Korea’s ruler met at the Vostochny spaceport in eastern Russia. Whether arms deliveries were discussed there has not been officially announced.
