Avdiivka: Russia makes a new attempt – and arrives with powerful equipment

Russian forces have once again launched an attack on the strategically significant town of Avdiivka.

According to a video posted on Telegram by General Valery Zaluzhnyi, the commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russian army continues its relentless efforts to encircle the largely devastated town of Avdiivka in the eastern part of the country. The General reports that the enemy is deploying additional assault units, substantial amounts of armored equipment, and employing aircraft and artillery in the battle. Avdiivka has been under heavy attack for days. The town is in close proximity to the major city of Donetsk, which has been under pro-Russian control since 2014 and now holds only symbolic value, as reported by the German news platform Spiegel.

Reports indicate that approximately 1,600 residents currently inhabit the town, compared to the 30,000 inhabitants prior to the onset of the Russian aggression. Avdiivka has been heavily fortified in recent months and remains a contested area. The recent intensification of the Russian offensive over the last two days appears to be aimed at cutting off the town’s supply lines and encircling the Ukrainian troops stationed there.
