German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock demands a strong signal against Russia’s President Vladimir Putin in light of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
“Especially in these times, when the Russian president is attacking not only the European peace order, but the United Nations Charter, there can be no ‘business as usual’ in the United Nations either,” the Green politician said, according to the Tagesschau at the UN General Assembly. “Despite all the crises in this world, we must not only promote the United Nations Charter, especially in these days, but stand up for it together,” Baerbock said. The Charter is “our peace, (…) our life insurance worldwide.”
For this reason, Russian aggression is to be on the agenda at the General Assembly in various formats. In this context, the German foreign minister also highlighted the issue of the children abducted by Russia from Ukraine and the question of Putin’s accountability. In addition, she said, it was also a question of “how we can finally get a little closer to peace.”
