Bakhmut: Ukraine recaptures three square kilometers

According to information from Kyiv, Ukrainian forces were able to retake a limited area in the east of the country around the heavily war-torn town of Bakhmut last week.

According to Deputy Minister of Defence Hanna Maljar, who spoke on television, three square kilometers have been “liberated” from Russian forces in the Bakhmut region. A total of 40 square kilometers have been reclaimed so far on the southern flank of the Bakhmut sector, according to the German news website tagesschau.de.

According to reports, large sections of Ukraine’s front lines were previously heavily bombed by Russia with artillery and air strikes, particularly in the regions around Bakhmut, Kupyansk, Andriivka, and Mariyinka in the eastern and southeastern parts of Ukraine. According to the German news platform Euronews, the Russian military met with strong resistance.
