Black Sea: Russia destroys U.S. boat

Russia says it has prevented armed “saboteurs” from entering Russian territory and destroyed two Ukrainian boats in the Black Sea. This reports there German news website fr.de with reference to a report by the AFP news agency.

“Today, Ukrainian saboteurs tried to breach the border in the Klimovsky district,” a Telegram posting by the region’s governor in charge reads. Security forces of the FSB, the Ministry of Defense, the National Guard and other authorities pushed back the attackers, it said.

Further, the Kremlin reports the destruction of Ukrainian boats in the Black Sea: “On August 22, at around 11:00 a.m. Moscow time (10:00 a.m. CEST), a Russian army aircraft destroyed a U.S.-made Willard Sea Force fast patrol boat with a Ukrainian landing party on board east of Snake Island,” fr.de quotes the Russian Defense Ministry.

This information comes from a party to the conflict and has not yet been independently verified / confirmed. For this reason, the report must be evaluated with reservations. In war, it can be advantageous for parties to make false statements about the course of the conflict in order to strengthen their own position or weaken the position of the opponent.
