Every day since the beginning of the large-scale Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the British Ministry of Defense publishes its assessment of the situation in the conflict. On August 14, 2023, it is about the fighting on the banks of the lower reaches of the Dnipro River.
Via X, formerly Twitter, the British Ministry of Defense writes: “There has been an increase in small-scale fighting on the banks of the lower reaches of the Dnipro over the past week. Ukrainian forces have conducted raids or established small bridgeheads at new locations on the Russian-held eastern bank.”
London further explains: “This is in addition to the expansion of the bridgehead Ukraine has maintained since June 2023 near the destroyed Antonivsky Bridge. Some of these operations likely exploited a local Russian troop rotation. Combatants also continue to fight for control of small islands in the Dnipro estuary. Russian commanders face the dilemma of whether to reinforce this area or deploy troops in areas of key Ukrainian counteroffensives, farther east.”
