Ukraine intensifies call for German Taurus cruise missiles to shorten war.
The Ukrainian government, represented by Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, has reiterated that it urgently needs German Taurus cruise missiles for its defense against Russia, reports the Deutsche Welle. According to Kuleba, the cruise missiles could shorten the duration of the war with Russia. In addition, they would make it possible to hit Russian occupation forces and strategic targets behind the front line.
In Germany, he said, the debate over the delivery of these weapons systems to Ukraine has recently intensified. While some politicians from both the government and the opposition would be in favor of such support, there was concern about whether Ukraine might use these weapons against targets on Russian territory. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD), however, had mentioned that the final decision on this was still pending. Kuleba, however, assured Deutsche Welle that fears that Ukraine could use the Taurus cruise missiles against Russia were unfounded.
Zelensky Expresses Gratitude to Chancellor Scholz in Diplomatic Gesture
President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude to Germany for the delivery of additional Patriot air defense systems. Selenskyj stressed that these systems had already successfully repelled Russian hypersonic missiles on several occasions. In addition to air defense, Deutsche Welle reports that Germany has also provided other military equipment and supplies.
In another issue, the Federal Network Agency warned of possible bottlenecks in gas supplies in the coming winter. Although German gas storage facilities are currently well filled, there are risks such as an extremely cold winter or political decisions by Russia that could lead to supply problems.
