Since the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine last February, Russia has been able to rely on numerous supporters, despite Western sanctions.
The USA now fears that Iran might supply Russia with ballistic missiles for use against Ukraine in the future. This was reported by the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland. The Communication Director of the National Security Council, John Kirby, said on Tuesday in Washington that Russia had offered Tehran unprecedented cooperation in defense in return for this support.
During a visit to Iran in September, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was apparently shown ballistic missiles. Therefore, Kirby stated, “We are concerned that Iran is considering supplying Russia with ballistic missiles for use in Ukraine.” These weapons are usually ground-to-ground missiles. Depending on their design, they carry different types of warheads, which can be conventional, biological, chemical, or even nuclear. Due to Western sanctions, Iran and Russia have expanded their cooperation in economic and military fields.
