New wave of attacks: Russia aims to “bomb Ukraine back to the Ice Age”

According to the assessment of British intelligence, Ukraine is facing a new major wave of attacks. This was reported by the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.

“One of Russia’s goals was probably to weaken Ukraine’s air defense in order to prepare the battlefield for a concerted winter offensive campaign against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure,” says the British intelligence report. Temperatures in Ukraine are already falling below freezing, just like last year at this time, the Russians are most likely again targeting the energy infrastructure as their number one attack target.

“As winter approaches, there will be more Russian attempts to intensify the attacks,” warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over the weekend. Last year, there were about 60 attacks on heating plants, power distributors, power grids, and other energy infrastructure. “The greatest danger for Ukraine this winter is likely to be the lack of ammunition to defend against drones and missiles,” says military strategist Niklas Masuhr from ETH Zurich to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND).
