At a meeting with Russian journalists in the Kremlin after the two-day Russia-Africa summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin was asked about a possible war with NATO. He assured that Russia is prepared “for any scenario.” This is reported by the German news magazine Berliner Zeitung.
“We are always prepared for any scenario,” Putin said. “But nobody wants that. And at the initiative of the American side, we have created a special mechanism to prevent these conflicts.” Putin assured, “Here, our heads of certain departments communicate directly with each other and have the opportunity to consult in any crisis situation.” Putin was also asked about the points of the African Peace Initiative for Ukraine. He assured that some were already being implemented. “The initiative itself, like any other peace initiative, is good because it aims at a peaceful resolution of the conflict.” However, he said, there are also limitations: “There are things that are difficult to implement or realize. One of the issues, for example, is a ceasefire. We can’t stop firing if they attack us.”
Since the end of February 2022, Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s war of aggression against international law, which is aimed at the entire country. Russia had already started to attack Ukraine in 2014.
