President Vladimir Putin of Russia has defended former U.S. President Donald Trump, who is currently the subject of several judicial proceedings in the United States. This reports the German news website n-tv.de.
At an economic forum in the eastern Russian port city of Vladivostok, Putin expressed that this action demonstrated the “rottenness of the American political system.” He stressed that what is happening with Trump is based on politically motivated persecution of a political competitor.
Several cases are currently underway against Trump in the USA. In Washington, for example, he is being charged at the federal level with alleged attempted election fraud. This is related to his months-long campaign against his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, which culminated in the violent storming of the U.S. Capitol by his supporters on Jan. 6, 2021. The 77-year-old is accused of conspiracy against the United States, among other charges.
Meanwhile, in Moscow, words of praise continue to be uttered about Trump, who, unlike incumbent U.S. President Joe Biden, has not been nearly as harsh in his criticism of Putin over the latter’s war of aggression against Ukraine. During his appearance in Vladivostok, Putin also expressed praise for U.S. tech billionaire Elon Musk, whom he called an “outstanding personality.” The Kremlin leader stressed, “He is an active and talented businessman.”
