Russia loses 520 armored vehicles – and still wants to keep fighting

The Russian army apparently continues its attack on Avdiivka near the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, as reported by the German news website n-tv.de.

According to reports from the U.S. think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which rely on information from Russian military bloggers, the Russian offensive has temporarily paused after suffering heavy losses. However, there are reports, based on Ukrainian sources, indicating that Russia has already relocated new troops towards the eastern Ukrainian industrial city. The Ukrainian General Staff recently announced that they have repelled up to 20 daily attacks at the front. In the battles, the Russian armed forces are said to have lost 900 soldiers and 150 armored vehicles within 24 hours.

These statements have not yet been verified and/or confirmed by independent parties. Therefore, they should be treated with caution. In war, it can be advantageous for conflicting parties to deliberately spread misinformation to strengthen their own position or weaken the opponent’s.
