EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has arrived in Kiev for a surprise visit.
According to the report, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has unexpectedly arrived in the capital of Ukraine. Her visit to Kiev takes place ahead of a report on Ukraine’s progress in its efforts to join the EU, which the European Union intends to present next week.
On the news service X, formerly Twitter, von der Leyen wrote that Ukraine should be rebuilt as a “modern, prosperous democracy”.
Background to the visit
In February 2022, Ukraine was attacked by Russia in a war and has been trying to defend its country ever since. Since then, Ukraine has received Western support in terms of funds for reconstruction or arms deliveries.
