Ukraine breaks through Russian line: “Extremely dynamic situation” on the front line

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has analyzed that a “highly dynamic situation” has developed in the Ukrainian counteroffensive in Orikhiv in the western Zaporizhzhya oblast. This was shared by the German news website n-tv.de with.

According to the latest report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian forces carried out an attack that broke through Russian defensive lines in the area. Russian forces near Novoprokopivka, south of Orikhiv, were reportedly in a defensive position. ISW reports that separate Russian units on the western and eastern flanks of the salient launched counterattacks to relieve the growing pressure.

However, the ISW stresses that these “recent positive indicators” should not be taken as a guarantee that Ukraine is on the verge of significant operational success. It stresses that observers should be patient with Ukraine’s military operations and take into account that the counteroffensive is expected to continue through the winter of 2023 and into the spring of 2024. A dramatic and sudden Ukrainian advance into deeper Russian-occupied territory is not imperative to achieve success.
