Russian Soldiers Turn Against Putin: ‘He Must Be Removed’

In an interview with Kyiv Post, two Russian soldiers have reported poor and inhumane conditions in the Russian army. For security reasons, their names have been altered, as reported by the German news website Kölner Stadtanzeiger.

Sergei, one of the soldiers, explains that in the event of capture, their superiors advised them to “take a grenade.” They said it was better to die and take Ukrainians with them than to fall into enemy hands alive. For most of the time, Sergei says, his unit consisted almost entirely of ex-convicts. “They threw us into the forest and told us to dig. But they gave us nothing to dig with.”

Sergei continues: “Putin has everything – the National Guard, the militias, and the military. He’s like a king, there’s no other way to describe it.” Sergei does not believe that the Kremlin chief will change. “He needs to be removed, but how do you do that?”

Both Russian soldiers are among the prisoners of war in Ukraine.
