Setback for Russia: Putin’s “Alligator” crashed over Sea of Azov

A Russian combat helicopter has crashed over the Sea of Azov. The model is a Ka-52 helicopter, also known as “Alligator”. This reports the German news website n-tv.de with reference to the online media portal Baza.

According to Baza and responsible rescue personnel, the two pilots of the affected Ka-52 helicopter escaped with their lives. The helicopter is believed to have crashed over the Sea of Azov about 1.5 kilometers from the coast already on Friday. Baza cites difficult weather conditions as the reason. It was very foggy in the area.

The Sea of Azov borders Ukrainian territory, among others, such as the Crimean Peninsula, which was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014. The Kamov Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter is a Russian model, which is the further development of the Kamov Ka 50, also known as the Black Shark. It had its maiden flight in 1997, and serial production started in 2008.
