UK Ministry of Defense: Russian Armed Forces under pressure

Every day since the escalation of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine, the UK Ministry of Defense publishes its assessment of the situation of the conflict. On August 26, 2023, it posted via X, formerly Twitter:

“The Ukrainian counteroffensive has put pressure on Russian forces in Bakhmut and southern Ukraine. Nevertheless, the Russian group of Western forces in the northeastern part of the country, in the Kupiansk-Lyman sector, has continued to conduct smaller attacks and make some limited local advances. As Ukraine gradually gains ground in the south, Russia, according to its doctrine, will try to regain the initiative by returning to an offensive at the operational level. Kupiansk-Lyman is a possible area for this.”

At the same time, the UK Ministry of Defense states, “There is a realistic possibility that Russia will increase the intensity of its offensive efforts on the Kupiansk-Lyman axis over the next two months, probably with the aim of advancing westward to the Oskil River and creating a buffer zone around the Luhansk region.”

In Russia, the daily updates from the UK Ministry of Defense are said to be propaganda.
